First sickle cell CRISPR therapy

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Casgevy, the first medicine using CRISPR gene editing, for sickle cell disease. Patients had their bone marrow rewritten one base pair at a time. The price tag was $2.2 million. The technology that had earned Doudna and Charpentier a Nobel three years earlier had reached the clinic.
