Superman film released
1978
Director Richard Donner's Superman, starring Christopher Reeve as a sincere Kryptonian farm boy in red and blue, convinced audiences that, in the tagline, you will believe a man can fly. It was the first modern blockbuster built on a superhero, and it launched a genre that would dominate Hollywood a generation later.
