Yi Sun-sin's Turtle Ships
July 8, 1592
Admiral Yi Sun-sin destroyed a Japanese fleet at Hansando with his armored turtle ships, whose iron-spiked roofs made them nearly impossible to board. He would win every naval engagement he fought, cutting Japanese supply lines and earning a place in Korean memory beside no one else. The war turned at sea.
