Six years into his reign, Vikramaditya VI had transformed the Western Chalukya kingdom into the dominant power of peninsular India. His armies controlled territory from the Narmada River to the Kaveri, and his court at Kalyani attracted scholars like the jurist Vijnaneshwara, whose Mitakshara commentary on Hindu law would shape Indian legal tradition for centuries.
