New Horizons reaches Pluto

After nine years and three billion miles, NASA's New Horizons probe flew past Pluto at fourteen kilometers per second, sending back the first detailed pictures of the dwarf planet's surprising icy heart and nitrogen glaciers. A world that Clyde Tombaugh had spotted in 1930 finally had a face. Tombaugh's ashes were aboard.
