Argentine Independence

July 9, 1816

In a rented house in the Andean town of Tucuman, delegates from the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata declared themselves free of Spain. The new country had no borders, no president, and a half-dozen civil wars ahead. But from that hot afternoon dates the republic of Argentina.
