Treaty of Karlowitz
January 26, 1699
The Ottoman Empire, beaten by the Holy League, signed a peace at Karlowitz ceding most of Hungary to Austria, Podolia to Poland, the Morea to Venice, and Azov to Russia. It was the first treaty the Porte had signed as the admitted losing party. Ottoman decline was now a diplomatic fact.
