War of the Public Weal in France
1465
A coalition of French princes including Charles of Burgundy rose against Louis XI, claiming to defend the common good. The real issue was royal centralization, which the princes hated. Louis settled the war with bribes, marriages, and patience, later repudiating everything he had promised. The spider king was in his element.
